The Lakeshore, 89.1 FM Inks Deal to Broadcast Hoosier Football and Basketball


Lakeshore Public Radio Program, The Lakeshore, 89.1 FM signed a three-year extension with Learfield Communications, Inc. to broadcast Indiana University Football and Men’s Basketball games, Program Director Len Clark announced today.

Coverage will include all home and away regular and post-season play. The Hoosiers open the 2009 regular football season Thursday, September 3 at home against Eastern Kentucky.

Kellen Mogck Memorial Golf Outing Monday August 3rd


The Kellen Mogck Memorial Golf Outing will take place on Monday, August 3rd at the Course at Aberdeen. The annual event raises money for the Kellen Mogck Scholarship, given each year to graduating seniors who participated in football and/or boys or girls track through their senior year and who fit other criteria as well. The outing will take place at 1pm with a shotgun start, followed by dinner, awards and a slient auction at 6:30pm.

Samardzija Called Up to the Majors


Jeff Samardzija was called up to the Chicago Cubs Major League squad yesterday, as right hander Jose Ascanio was optioned to Triple A Iowa.

Samardzija had started his last twelve outings in Iowa, going 5-3 with a 3.72 ERA, and 53 strikeouts in 67 2/3 innings. However, the 6’5 right hander will be a reliever for the Cubs, where he struggled earlier this season.

Jeff Samardzija struck out five batters in rout to his fifth win for the Iowa Cubs. The former Valpo star went seven strong innings in to the ball game, giving up three runs on eight hits.

Samardzija is now 5-3 on the year with a 3.72 ERA. He remains the most likely player to be called up to the major league squad to fill a starting rotation role. Samardzija had been called up earlier in the season to fill a reliever-role.
