First pitch in Sunday’s series finale was pushed back two hours, 46 minutes due to rain, featured a 24-minute rain delay after the eighth inning and lasted a season-long four hours, 19 minutes before concluding on Monday morning.

After playing four hours, 19 minutes of baseball on Sunday night in an 11-10 win over the St. Paul Saints, the Gary SouthShore RailCats played four hours, seven minutes of baseball on Monday night in a 3-2 11-inning victory over the Milwaukee Milkmen in the inaugural game at Routine Field. Ray Jones gave Gary their first extra-innings of the year win with an RBI hustle-double in front of 3,284 fans in the first game ever between the Milkmen and RailCats.

Men’s Basketball Announces Plans for Foreign Tour


When the 2019-2020 Valparaiso University men’s basketball team takes the court in a game situation for the first time, it will do so north of the border.

The program has announced plans for a Canadian Summer Tour, which will span from Aug. 10-14 in Montreal and Quebec City. The preseason trip and allotted practices for the trip, which begin on Monday, July 29, will allow Valpo to get a head start on preparations for the new season.

“The foreign tour will provide our program with the opportunity to gain valuable experience as we prepare for the coming season,” Valpo head coach Matt Lottich said. “We look forward to getting on the court in game situations against high-level competition and integrating our newcomers with our returning players. In addition, the foreign tour will give our players chances to grow and create memories both on and off the court.”

Prime’s 3-run homer downs Gary, 3-0, in series opener

The Gary SouthShore RailCats were shutout by the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 3-0 on Tuesday night at the Newman Outdoor Field in the first of their season-long, 10-game road. Gary has now lost their last five series openers, eight of their last 10 games, and are 5-11 against the North Division following Tuesday’s defeat.

Fargo-Moorhead (16-14) received all their runs courtesy of Correlle Prime’s three-run home run in the fourth inning. Devan Ahart drew a four-pitch to begin the frame before T.J. Bennett pulled a single through the right side of the infield two batters later. Prime followed with a three-run laser down the left field line for his team-high fifth home run of the year.
