Franciscan Health Foundation partners with Purdue Extension and Duneland Health Council to bring healthy cooking to Michigan City

Members of the media are invited to the first of a series of classes on preparing healthy meals being held in a new mobile kitchen facility that was made possible by a grant from the Duneland Health Council.

Weather permitting, Chef Erik Tannehill will present the 45- to 60-minute class at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 13 at the Walker Park Community Garden at 900 Walker Street. Chef Tannehill will be taking produce out of the garden and preparing a meal. Attendees will receive an Aldi gift card and shopping list to purchase the ingredients to prepare the meal at home. The first class of 10 participants has been filled.

This year, finally a freshman, she ran her first season at the high school level, a journey that ended with something young runners everywhere dream of: a trip to the State finals.

Methodist Hospitals Offering Farmer’s Market

Methodist Hospitals Food Services Department will once again be offering a series of Farmer’s Markets to promote nutrition and enhance the availability of fresh produce to the Gary and surrounding communities.

The Farmer’s Market will be held on the following Fridays from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Northlake Campus in Gary. The Farmer’s Market will be held in the parking lot directly across from the Administration Building and next to McDonalds:

  • Friday, June 14
  • Friday, June 28
  • Friday, August 16
  • Friday, September 6

Look for the big white tent and the Farmer’s Market signs. There will be lots of fresh, delicious fruits and vegetables at wholesale prices. Baked good from local vendors will also be offered.
