Bourdain died by suicide June 8, 2018. Across the country, restaurants are offering special menus and items, with proceeds of those items going to suicide prevention causes. The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians’ Four Winds® Casinos has announced that due to production on an upcoming feature film, the Chris D’Elia date set for July 19 at Four Winds New Buffalo’s® Silver Creek® Event Center is now moved to Friday, November 8th, 2019 at 9 p.m. ET. All tickets purchased for the original date will be valid for entry on the rescheduled date.

Opportunity Enterprises will host their annual Celebration of Achievement awards breakfast on June 27, 2018 at 8 am at Aberdeen Manor. The awards are presented to individuals with disabilities in recognition of outstanding achievement. Awards are also presented to outstanding volunteers, staff, and businesses for supporting individuals with disabilities. An inspirational program will be hosted by Lanie Steinwart, OE board member and chair of the Communications Department at Valparaiso University.
The clients, staff, volunteers, and businesses were nominated by OE employees and a blind vote was held by the Board of Directors to select the award recipients. Being recognized this year are the following recipients of the 2019 Celebration of Achievement awards.

Are you hungry for some spaghetti? On June 27, Life Care Center of the Willows is hosting their annual spaghetti dinner. All funds from the dinner will go toward the Valparaiso Noon Kiwanis Club wheelchair ramp team, who install temporary ramps for community members in need.

Cancer Survivors Celebrate their Journeys at Community Healthcare System, Cancer Resource Centre Breakfast
Laughter reverberated through the Professional Building Conference Room at St. Catherine Hospital Sunday morning, as local cancer survivors and their loves ones gathered for the 32nd annual National Cancer Survivors Day Breakfast. They shared pancakes, swapped stories, and celebrated life.
Mayor Thomas M. McDermott, Jr. and the 16th annual Festival of the Lakes ensures everyone is included in the event’s fun and excitement by offering Senior Day to the community. Senior Day, held on Friday, July 19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the patio at the Hammond Marina, 701 Casino Center Drive, invites seniors aged 55 and older to come enjoy an afternoon of dancing, a free lunch provided by California Donuts, and music by Pete Carlo Three. This event is free and offers goody bags to everyone in attendance while supplies last.. Vendors will also be up in the Clipper Room with information pertaining to various senior services.
