It was badge versus badge on Saturday evening as Valpo’s Police and Fire Departments took the field for Valpo Park Foundation’s Party in the Park fundraiser and kickball tournament.
Party in the Park is always one of the Valpo Park Foundation’s biggest celebrations. Each bash features a different theme, this year’s being Battle of the Badges. Different teams duked it out in a big kickball tournament throughout the day and snacked on concessions, browsed a beer garden, and enjoyed tunes from a DJ. Later on, Valpo’s Police and Fire Departments battled in the featured match of the night, with each team led by their respective chiefs.
Crown Point’s newest jewel was finally completed on Friday when Mayor David Uran cut the ribbon on Bulldog Park, an $11 million facility with splash pads, a massive pavilion, an amphitheater, and two-story community center.
The Girl Scouts of Valparaiso and Washington Township opened and closed the Memorial Day Concert at the Memorial Opera house on Monday, May 27th. A delegation of 12 Girl Scouts ranging from 1st through 10th graders ceremoniously presented the Colors while the audience sang the Star-Spangled Banner and recited the Pledge of Allegiance. The program continued with the Valparaiso/Community band directed by Jeff Doebler playing patriotic songs. The Girl Scouts closed the program by retreating the colors after Taps was played.

Currie Motors Ford of Valparaiso welcomed the community to their annual Memorial Day Car, Truck, and Bike Show to raise funds for “Folds of Honor”, a non-profit that raises funds for scholarships that benefit families of fallen and disabled service members.
Leo Sfikas, General Manager of Currie Motors Ford of Valparaiso, was behind an enormous grill cooking hamburgers provided by the dealership. He said that Currie Motors Ford happily donates the funds and time to support Folds of Honor. The military charity is close to their hearts, and the people who attend the show make it an amazing event.
We are delighted to announce that Piquet, one of the Pacific white-sided dolphins at Shedd Aquarium, is pregnant and due to deliver this fall. The 31-year-old dolphin is an experienced mother, having previously given birth to two healthy calves at Shedd – Sagu, born in 2012, and Makoa, born in 2015.
Our veterinary and animal care teams report that Piquet and her developing calf are progressing exactly as they should. They will provide her with any prenatal attention she may require in addition to the excellent care that is standard for all Shedd’s animals.
