What’s better than pairing wine and cheese? Wine and charity, of course! Sand Creek Country Club hosted the 21st Annual Wine Fest for Crisis Center on the evening of Thursday, June 9th. The purchase of a ticket made for unlimited wine, food, dessert, and craft beer tasting. Additionally, there were numerous events happening, including the 50/50 Raffle, Wine & Airline Ticket Raffle and Silent & Live Auction.
Shirley Caylor, the CEO of the Crisis Center, said, “One of the unique aspects of this event is that it unites everybody within the region. We have guests all the way from the suburbs of Chicago to LaPorte and even South Bend. It is wonderful to see the unity of Northwest Indiana in support of an amazing cause.”
The Sand Creek banquet hall was decked out with a craft beer station, wine stations, and dozens upon dozens of desserts. Guests had the opportunity to mingle, grab a plate and glass, and dig in. Hors d'ouevres were served by the Sand Creek Staff.
The Crisis Center is located in Gary, Indiana, and supports hundreds of individuals on a daily basis. The money that was raised during the event supports each of the seven crisis intervention & prevention programs. These services include counseling, suicide prevention juvenile delinquency prevention, and short/long term shelter. Additionally, there is a Crisis Contact Hotline available for individuals who are seeking support.
Barbara Wisdom, CFO of the Crisis Center, said, “This event has been going on for twenty-one years and has supported several aspects of the Crisis Center. We’ve raised enough money to build a building through events such as this. The money that we have raised in the past has provided operational support during tough times and assisted numerous children and families.”
Furthermore, guests had the ability to bid on numerous silent and live auction items, including vacations and wine tours. Items that were auctioned off included Chicago Blackhawks tickets, Sand Creek golf foursome, Blackhawks memorabilia, a Lake Michigan fishing trip, Sand Creek Dining Membership, Tom Sourlis Art Glass, and Cubs and/or Sox tickets.
All in all, the evening was a success. The Crisis Center can touch the lives of hundreds due to the support through fundraisers like the Annual Wine Fest. Who says giving back to the community can’t be fun?
