At Indiana University Northwest, Yllka Azemi teaches “Marketing Strategies,” a course designed for business administration majors that requires students to assemble in groups and develop a marketing plan for a new product or service, or an existing business.
Veterinarians from The Maryland Zoo, the Saint Louis Zoo and Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium traveled nearly 4,000 miles to rescue dolphins in central Bolivia, where a group of approximately 15 endangered Bolivian river dolphins were trapped in a lake. The dolphins, known in Bolivia as bufeos, were isolated in the lake surrounded by dense forest and expansive soybean fields, and had become cut off from the main river over the past several years due to run-off from environmental changes in the area.

Physicians have been seeing patients for about three months at the brand new NWI Nephrology office in Gary, but everything there is still shiny new as the practice continues to grow.
The new 1,500-square-foot facility at 1705 W. 25th Ave., Suite 201 in Gary opened to patients in January, offering an important specialty-care service near residential neighborhoods with easy access off I-94 at Grant Street.
“We are thrilled to be able to provide close-to-home care for our chronic kidney disease and dialysis patients,” said Jane Lloyd, practice operations manager for NWI Nephrology. Previously, patients in that area had to travel to their Hammond or Whiting location for care. “It is a great state-of-the-art facility geared toward patient comfort and convenience,” Lloyd said.

Community members gathered Thursday for United Way of Porter County’s annual celebration, recognizing outstanding volunteers throughout the area. The event included a breakfast buffet followed by a presentation of prestigious awards to a select few seated in the packed Duneland Falls Banquet Center.
Northwest Indiana is filled with big dreamers and eager teams who create and execute the elaborate events and festivals that put the Region on the map. When several events directors from the area gathered recently at the Life Site studio for a collaborative meeting, the room instantly came alive with excitement and positivity for what it takes to pull off these impressive productions.
