Spring is here - and you know what that means…spring cleaning! It’s time to clean away old-man winter’s mess and say hello to warmer, clearer (and cleaner) weather.
Love it or hate it, there’s no denying the power of a good season cleaning. Taking the time to deep clean your home removes dust & allergens, improves your mood and can be a great physical workout.
Brilliant Results Cleaning Service is here with five easy tips to guide us through dust.
Start from top to bottom
Brilliant Results recommends dusting on days with more sun. This allows you to see dust particles more easily. When you do embark on your cleaning spree, start from the ceiling down. This forces debris down and keeps you from having to re-dust or re-clean your space.
Vacuuming sucks… literally - but it’s important
The team at Brilliant Results suggests using vacuums with an extension hose to get cobwebs and dust from your ceilings and fans first. Then dust your furniture and other items before vacuuming all the debris off the floor. Also, use a vacuum with a high-quality HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) filter. This type of filter catches particles you can’t even see, and traps pet dander, allergens and most household particles in your home, such as dirt, dust, allergens, and other impurities. A HEPA filter is one of the best spring cleaning tools you can use.
For vacuums without HEPA filters, Brilliant Results suggests using attachments such as dusting brushes and crevice tools, and hoses that can fit into tight locations. These tools can make it simple to clean ceiling fans, cobwebs in corners, furniture, pillows and tight spaces behind furniture.
Go green when you clean
If you want to spring into the new season on a clean note without chemicals or other toxins, you have natural options. On top of being one of the best green products for cleaning, a steam cleaner is a great chemical-free cleaning solution. Steam cleaners only use hot water vapor and are 100 percent natural.
Don’t have a steam cleaner? Don’t worry - Brilliant Results suggests using a combination of white distilled vinegar, baking soda and water. The ingredients are affordable and the solution is non-toxic and works great for cleaning kitchens and bathrooms.
Remember to replace your air filter
One of the most overlooked parts of spring cleaning is replacing your furnace’s air filter. Replacing a standard filter with a more robust one with a high MERV (minimum efficiency reporting value) rating will help keep the air circulating in your home more clean.
Equipping your furnace with this type of filter is inexpensive and catches smaller, irritating particles. Ducts can build up dust during winter, and upgraded filters catch unwanted particles from penetrating your home.
To the windows to the walls (insert Lil’John meme)
Let’s be honest - cleaning the walls in your home isn’t something you typically think about in your regular cleaning regimen. The truth is, dust also settles on the walls. Brilliant Results suggests using a damp towel to wipe down walls and blinds (starting from the top of course).
Be sure to clean your windows with a gentle window cleaner. Brilliant Results recommends tackling this task on more cloudy days. The sun can dry the cleaner before you wipe - resulting in streaks.
